Who skips the income test

These lanes waive or shortcut parts of the income test in Missouri — if one is you, say so on page one of the application:

  • Families receiving TANF cash assistance
  • Children in foster care or with an open protective-services case
  • Families experiencing homelessness

The co-pay

Daily sliding fee by day-part. Published transitional bands (new scale from Nov 2025): Transitional Level 1 (151–185% FPL) $7.50 full day / $3.75 half day / $2.50 part day; Level 2 (186–215% FPL) $8.75 / $4.40 / $2.90. The base-band fee below 150% FPL is set on the same DESE scale — confirm your band with DESE.

Fee scale: Nov 2025 (DESE sliding fee scale).

The gap: allowed in Missouri

DESE states the parent pays the sliding fee plus any co-payments a provider charges, which cannot exceed the provider's non-subsidy rate — charges above the subsidy are payable by the parent, capped at the provider's regular rate.

The gap estimate in the free check uses the state rate ceiling on this page and the price you enter. It is always an estimate — your child's rate category and your contract set the real figure.

No state maximum rate was opened in the October 2026 check.

The funding reality

Missouri implemented a waitlist starting March 1, 2025, and payment-processing changes ('Defend the Spend') have slowed some payments. Apply early and keep documents ready.

How to apply

Apply through DESE's Office of Childhood or the Family Support Division. State program page.
